  1. Song: Mashup (with Kurt Hugo Schneider) – Single by: T-PAIN
This song is an acoustic mashup of multiple T-PAIN songs. I enjoy acoustic covers, because they are often a little different than the original song. This song in particular features a few of T-PAIN’s greatest hits, such as “Bartender” and “I’m in Luv” so I was immediately able to recognize when the songs changed. I spent most of my spring break travelling, and I would listen to this song while on the plane. It was relaxing to hear, as well as enjoyable since I knew almost all of the lyrics. The authors of the song is T-PAIN and Kurt Hugo Schneider. The audience is those who listen to T-PAIN, as well as those who listen to acoustic music. Those searching for an acoustic covers of popular songs are also an unintended audience. The purpose of the song is to entertain, for there is even a music video for this song. The tone of this song is informal, due to the topics discussed, and the genre the song is in. Acoustic covers create a much more relaxed tone, since the songs are usually slowed down, as well as more “sing-songy” which makes listeners more inclined to listen to them in a calm atmosphere. The content of the song is T-PAIN songs that are slowed down to fit an acoustic beat. A guitar and piano is also featured. The design of the song is a mashup, so particular parts of each song are featured and then blended together. The song features the same beat and same style of music, which works to make the piece of music very cohesive.

  2. Song: Saturday Sun By: Vance Joy

I instantly feel happy when this song comes on. It kind of reminds me of a walking song, you know something that you would want to walk to the beat/pace to. The author of this song is Vance Joy. The audience is people who listen to Vance Joy. The purpose of the entire album this song was published with was to describe a perfectly self-contained couple. The content is mainly sharing two persons love for each other. It is a story of someone driving out to the West coast to confess their love for someone, and the continuation of their relationship. The tone is happy and lighthearted. The design, which could also be described as the composition of it could be described as giving off island vibes. When listening you can hear piano, guitar, vocal layers, syllabic singing. It all comes together to create a groovy vibe.

  3. Pacific Coast Party by Smash Mouth

This song is the perfect song to play on a hot summer's day with the windows rolled down. It just reminds you that it's 5 o' clock somewhere, and it makes dream about laying on the beach with a cold Corona in hand. Nothing like it. Really, any song by Smash Mouth puts me in a better mood. When I was little, my dad would have Smash Mouth on repeat. All of their good stuff is from over a decade ago, but it always has a spot in my playlist. The author of this musical masterpiece is Smash Mouth, and the audience is fans of Smash Mouth and alternative/pop rock. The lyrics immediately set the tone and reveal Smash Mouth's message. Their relaxed, good vibes tone lets the audience and listener know that every now and then you need to just have a good time. Put all the worry aside for a bit and just live it up man. This is Smash Mouth's argument; "If you wanna find peace of mind come and get it, Get yourself in line take your time, And watch it slip away, Pacific Coast Party". Their argument is to take a break from the stressful things in life every now and then, and to celebrate life however the listener thinks. The upbeat music and use of various instruments add to the "party" design of the song. It's just a song everyone can enjoy.

  4. My song is Knee Deep by Zac Brown Band. In the song Zac Brown is talking about how he is taking a break from all the stress and chaos of life. He said "gonna put the world away for a minute and pretend I don't live in it, sunshine gonna wash my blues away." In his case he recently just lost his lover and he said he is trying to find a way to not think about it and says "wishing I was knee deep in the water somewhere got the blue sky breeze blowing wind through my hair not . worry in the world except if the tide gonna reach my chair." This is the perfect spring break and summer song. Every time I listen to it, I just picture myself on the beach relaxing without a care in the world. Even if its not spring break or summer and I am just having a stressful week this song can he me unwind. His audience are people who listen to upbeat beach music and his followers. The purpose is to convince the listener to take breaks from life every now and then and just enjoy living. Through his lyrics about wanting to be on a beach and escape from the hard things in life, he creates a relaxed and chill tone.

  5. Song: Danza Kaduro by Don Omar ft. Lucenzo

This song absolutely screams Spring Break. I don't know anyone who can listen to this song without getting the urge to get up and dance. Even if you are not a dancer, this song will make you boogie. The uptempo, and energetic beat of the song sends good vibes through everyone listening and instantly sets the tone for whatever the situation might be. For me, blasting this song makes me think of days out on my boat with a bunch of friends doing crazy stuff. This song basically tells me that it is time to party. The author is Don Omar, a Puerto Rican singer who exemplifies how I feel when the song comes on in his music video of this song. Some people say the argument is to "dance to the kuduro". Kuduro is some type of energetic dance that originated in Angola in the 1980's. Others say the title of Danza Kuduro means to "dance with a tight butt". For school purposes that definition was buffered a bit but the argument can be understood. Basically, Don Omar just wants everyone to get up, dance, and have a great time when this song comes on. The intended audience includes fans of Don Omar, people who like upbeat music, and people who like to dance, however there is a much larger audience that this song reaches out too because like I said earlier, even if you're not blessed with the moves like Jagger, this song will get your hips moving. The lyrics and music combine to create a dance party design for the song and creates a relaxed, fun-loving tone for everyone to enjoy. 10/10 would recommend.

  6. Song: Easy by the Commodores

Growing up, my parents always listened to "old" music. This is one of my favorite songs that reminds me of spring break. It talks about being "easy as Sunday morning", which to me is the prime resemblance of relaxing and taking it easy, which is what spring break usually is to me. It's a time to relax and enjoy yourself and not worry about what other people are thinking or doing. Whether it's being at the beach listening to this song, relaxing with friends, or hanging out with family it's a perfect song to just relax and sing along to, even if it a slow song and an older song. While some people might not think of this as your usual "Spring Break" type of music, it brings a sense of nostalgia (pathos) to me individually and my family. It reminds me of being on the lake, at the beach, and listening to this song during car rides with my family while we traveled places.

  7. I love the song Age of Worry by John Mayor. I love this song because it is very calming and has a “live” feel to it. I prefer more chill music, and this song sums up my music style. The instruments are highlighted and it has a joyful, upbeat vibe. John Mayor is a singer-songwriter, and this song appears on his Born and Raised album. The argument of the song is to simply enjoy life, in a culture where stress is praised. He encourages the listener to smile and live a life according to their heart, and not by social norms. His audience includes his fan base, and people who enjoy a country/bluesy sound. John Mayor’s purpose was to evoke joy. Some major components of this song were the guitar and tambourine. This song starts pretty slow, and the chorus has a strong beat to get you hype! Overall, his message was to “sing worry, why should I care?”

  8. This song makes me feel very good every time I listen to it. I remember one of the first times I was listening to it, I was in the car with one of my best friends. This is her absolute favorite song so naturally, she was screaming the lyrics. I will never forget the look of happiness on her face. That makes me happy to think about, which is why I love this song. The author of the song is Rupert Holmes. His audience is everyone, hence why one lyrics is: “if you have half a brain”. Escape suggests that sometimes you may be bored with something that you enjoy, but instead of looking for “an escape” like he says, you should discover new, refreshing things with what you have rather than look for something else.

  9. Song: Come Hang Out by AJR

I really enjoy this song, and I like to listen to it when I'm feeling overwhelmed. This song is about how people get too caught up in work/school, and then they end up missing out on great experiences with friends and people they love. The author is AJR, and their argument is that you need to relax and hang out with your friends so that you don't end up losing your mind. "I'll be there next time" is a line that is constantly repeated throughout the song, and I think we all can relate to times when friends ask us to hang out and we say that exact sentence. Eventually, our friends will stop asking us and we might go crazy trying to get where we want to go. The audience is regular listeners of AJR, but this song has also been played on popular current hits radio stations. This song is very relatable to many people. I think this is a great spring break song, because over spring break, we finally have plenty of time to hang out with friends, chill, and not obsess over our grades. It has a very electronic feel to it, and the chorus is much higher and robotic to sound like a group of friends talking to them rather than themselves singing it.

  10. My song is Love Story by Taylor Swift. This song is a great throwback, and whenever I listen to it, I am brought back to middle school. I believe that this song is timeless and will always be good to jam to. It’s a song that many people love and enjoy jamming to. I classify this as a feel-good song. It is a song that never fails to make me smile as I have always loved it. The author of this song is Taylor Swift as well as Nathan Chapman. The audience of this song was targeted to be fans of Taylor Swift, which included many teens and children. The audience also includes everyone who hears it, which would often include parents of children who listened to it. The argument of the song describes a relationship that no one supports, except the two lovers. Swift based the song off a relationship of her own, one that her friends and family did not fully support. Swift drew parallels between her situation and that of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The content of the song includes two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who liked each other, but lacked support from others. However, they knew what they had was real so they continued to pursue one another. Differing from the tragedy of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, this story ends with a happy ending, the two getting married. The purpose of this song serves to show that if you believe something is worth it, whether it be a goal or relationship, it is up to you to pursue it, and from that good can come about. The tone of this song is informal, as the upbeat music lightens the mood from the serious topic of an unsupported relationship.

  11. Song: Fun by Sir Sly

I have always loved this song since I first listened to it while in Costa Rica this summer. I was on a mission trip and every time I hear this song it makes me remember that time in my life. It is a very upbeat song and conveys the idea that he never wants to wake up, just wants to dream and fall in love. He states that his dreaming and seeing the world isn't going to hurt anyone, so why not let him do it? The author of this song is Sir Sly, while the audience was intended to be the fans, it also encompasses those that heard it without knowing who they were as a band (me). The purpose of the song is to create a sense of being free, and wanting nothing more than to be able to do what he pleases. The tone is happy but the lyrics imply that he is wanting a life different than the one he is currently living, and apologizes at one point to someone for bringing them into the mess. The design of the song is very drum-heavy and lots of vocals. Overall, it is a fun song to listen to and it creates a sense of letting go and pursuing what you want in life.
